Benefits Of A Stress-Free Retirement: Retired Couple Book 51 Back To Back Cruises (Cheaper Than A Retirement Home)

Do you want a stress-free retirement? Retirement is supposed to be all about chilling, right? Well, meet Marty and Jess Ansen, the retired duo who decided to throw the rulebook out the window and book not one, not two, but 51 back-to-back cruises instead of heading to a snooze-fest retirement home. In this rollercoaster of a story, we spill the tea on why they went for the open seas instead of a cozy room in a retirement joint and how it ended up a stress-free retirement. Turns out, it wasn’t just about sipping cocktails with tiny umbrellas (though that’s a bonus). It was cheaper too! Yep, you read that right. Who needs a fancy retirement home when you can have a stress-free retirement floating one with ocean views?

Cruise > Retirement Home – The Inside Scoop

cruise, out on the ocean, dark blue water, small bout on the water next to cruise ship // Healthier Me TodayJune 16, 2022, Marty and Jess Ansen set sail on their first cruise following two torturous years of rigorous COVID-19 lockdowns in Australia. They have already scheduled 51 trips, and they have yet to stop.

The great-grandparents plan to spend two years aboard Princess Cruises’ 2,000-passenger Coral Princess, having already spent more than 450 days on—longer than most of the crew, including the captains.

Marty told A Current Affair, “Look, whatever comes, just book it.” This was the last thing he said to his travel agent.

The pair argues that paying for a retirement home would be more expensive than taking a two-year trip around the globe.

Jess explained to the outlet, “It’s our lifestyle.” Before making cruises their permanent residence, the pair spent decades enjoying them.

There’s always something to do, from dancing to dinner, and the lifestyle includes a maid to clean your room, among other benefits.

However, what if we told you there was a way to glide through life while enjoying some unexpected health benefits genuinely?

Discover the world of cruising: it’s not your typical holiday but a way of life that could hold the key to a better, healthier version of yourself. What could be better than a stress-free retirement? This piece will discuss the unanticipated benefits of living a carefree lifestyle, whether on a cruise ship or by simply taking a more relaxed approach to the daily grind.

Stress Reduction on the High Seas:

Imagine swapping traffic jams and work deadlines for the gentle sway of the ocean. Cruise life encourages a slower pace, allowing you to leave stress onshore and embrace a more relaxed mindset.

  • Break from Routine: Vacations on cruises offer a vacation from the everyday grind. Passengers can disconnect from domestic duties, work-related anxieties, and the never-ending demands of a fast-paced existence on the ship, transforming into a floating paradise.
  • Scenic Serenity: The vastness and boundless horizons of the open sea provide a calm and serene atmosphere. Inspiring views of the ocean, dusks, and starry skies are available to passengers, offering a tranquil natural setting.
  • Mild Ocean Rhythm: The ship’s soft swaying motion can be soothing. Many individuals find the sound of the waves lapping on the hull calming, and the rhythmic motion of the water has been known to promote relaxation.
  • Leisurely Pace: The cruise lifestyle promotes a slower, more leisurely pace. Passengers can indulge in activities at their leisure, whether sitting by the pool, enjoying onboard entertainment, or simply relaxing on a deck with a good book.
  • Limited Connectivity: While modern cruise ships have internet connections, passengers can limit their connectivity. This break from continual emails, messages, and updates enables people to concentrate on the present moment and relax.
  • Variety of Destinations: Cruises frequently make stops at different ports and destinations. Exploring new places and learning about other cultures can be a relaxing way to escape everyday stresses.
  • All-Inclusive Packages: Many cruise lines provide all-inclusive packages, which eliminates the need for frequent decision-making and budgetary concerns. This can create a carefree environment, allowing passengers to immerse themselves in the cruise experience while reducing stress.

Sea’s Role in Mental Health:

It’s no myth that the ocean’s roar, vast view, and wind can refresh the mind. Many studies indicate being close to the sea can lower tension and help you feel more serene.

The idea of ‘Vitamin Sea’ is based on this. Being near the beach often relates to good mental health. Here’s why:

  • Stress Relief: The repeated lapping of waves against the shore soothes the brain. This steady noise can help manage worry and tension.
  • Connection with Nature: People can establish a connection with nature by living close to the water. Awe and astonishment can be sparked by the size of the sea and the breathtaking horizon, encouraging mindfulness and a reprieve from the stresses of everyday life.
  • Negative Ions: The amount of negative ions in coastal regions is believed to improve mood. It is believed that negative ions can raise serotonin levels in the brain, supporting happiness and well-being.
  • Physical Activity: Walking on the beach, swimming, and participating in water sports are just a few examples of the many activities that occur by the sea. Exercise has been shown to release endorphins, which are organic mood enhancers.

Social Connections Afloat:

Retirement homes aren’t the only places for retired folk to find a community. Cruise ships offer a unique environment for socializing, forming new friendships, and connecting with like-minded people. Social engagement is a proven factor in maintaining good mental and emotional health.

  • Diverse Community: Cruise ships bring together people of different backgrounds, ethnicities, and ages. Passengers can interact with others, developing social relationships with people they might never see again. The shared experiences provide a sense of friendship among passengers.
  • Onboard Activities: Cruise ships offer a variety of onboard activities and entertainment, giving passengers plenty of opportunities to hang out. From group excursions at port destinations to themed parties, trivia evenings, and communal dining experiences, passengers can easily interact with one another, building a sense of community throughout the trip.
  • Forming Friendships: The laid-back attitude of cruise life encourages people to strike up chats and create new relationships. The cruise atmosphere promotes the building of genuine social ties, whether through bonding over shared interests in a fitness class, connecting with tablemates at dinner, or participating in group events. These connections can help to create a good and uplifting experience for passengers, improving their overall mental and emotional well-being.

Unplug to Recharge for a stress-free retirement:

Life on a cruise ship often means limited access to constant emails and social media. Unplugging from the digital noise allows for genuine relaxation, promoting better sleep and mental rejuvenation.

  • Digital Detox Opportunities: Cruise ships offer an ideal setting for guests to disengage from the digital world. Those interested can engage in a digital detox with minimal internet connectivity and no digital distractions. This break from screens and notifications helps passengers to focus on the present moment, encouraging mindfulness and decreasing the mental clutter that comes with constant contact.
  • Improved Sleep Quality: Less exposure to screens and the absence of typical digital stimuli contribute to better sleep quality. The ship’s gently rocking motion, combined with the ocean’s soothing sounds, creates a setting for a good sleep. Passengers often report getting more profound and more restorative sleep, which can improve overall health.
  • Increased Face-to-Face Interaction: Without the constant distraction of smartphones and social media, travelers are more inclined to engage in in-person encounters. The cruise ship environment encourages true human interactions by having conversations in shared spaces, participating in onboard events, or simply sharing a meal with fellow passengers. This move from virtual to real-world socializing may result in more meaningful encounters promoting emotional well-being.
  • Mindful Appreciation of Environment: Unplugging from digital devices allows people to appreciate and enjoy their environment. Passengers can indulge in the beauty of the open sea, enjoy stunning views, and engage in onboard activities without being distracted by constant updates. This bothered enjoyment promotes relaxation and helps passengers refresh mentally and emotionally.
